Kitchen Island
To cost effectively build a custom island two stock base cabinets were ordered in unfinished wood and joined together to form the majority of the base. A shelf unit was built and tucked on the back side to fill what otherwise would have been dead space. Granite was ordered to cover the surface prep area. The custom built seating area overhang, wrapping the island on two sides, was constructed out of cherry and edged to seamlessly match to cut ogee trim on the granite. A hand made apron, applied around the base, gives it a furniture look. It was finished with an oil base green paint and clear polyurethane on the exposed wood surfaces.
